<br />
I always liked this OS!<br />
<br />
Bad surprise, the phone doesn't boot anymore, I get the blue HP/Palm logo pulsing and nothing ever happens. It doesn't even shut down.<br />
<br />
I read it's a common problem and reinstalling webos with WebOs Doctor should solve the problem.<br />
after working out java security options to finally run the WebOs Doctor, this one would fail to discover my phone.<br />
<br />
I try the boot in recovery mode:<br />
- take out the battery<br />
- plug the USB cable<br />
- wait 10 seconds<br />
- push the volume up rocker while inserting the battery<br />
<br />
same failure<br />
<br />
<br />
You will find detailed instructions there <a href="http://www.webos-internals.org/wiki/How_To_Recover">http://www.webos-internals.org/wiki/How_To_Recover</a><br />
<br />
In case of failure, it tells you try at least 10 times, before moving out to the un-recommended "<a href="http://www.webos-internals.org/wiki/Last_Resort_Emergency_BootLoader_Recovery" style="background-color: white; background-image: none; color: #5a3696; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19.049999237060547px; text-decoration: none;" title="Last Resort Emergency BootLoader Recovery">Last_Resort_Emergency_BootLoader_Recovery</a>"<br />
<br />
and here's the procedure that worked to put my HP Pre 2 in the so wanted recovery mode.<br />
<br />
- disconnect USB cable<br />
- make sure the phone is off, (take out the battery if needed, then put it back)<br />
- press the volume up rocker<br />
- insert the USB cable<br />
<br />
My PRE instantly showed the big USB logo, windows detected and installed the "bootie", WebOS Doctor finally saw the device and allowed me to restore it!<br />
<br />
<br />
Hope this help!Paulhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11903358544328649295noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7410099371468306397.post-47085064458766517752013-02-24T18:48:00.001-08:002013-02-24T18:50:22.443-08:00Python subprocess throws [Errno 2] No such file or directoryFirst steps in Python, and I've been spending a while trying to understand why my python script would fail when called from my webserver. The same script would work just fine when I run it manually.<br />
<br />
simple example<br />
<br />
file run_maven_clean.py:<br />
<br />
<i> #!/usr/bin/python</i><br />
<i> import os, sys,</i><br />
<br />
<br />
<i> subprocess.check_call(["mvn", "clean", "install"])</i><br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This will work if run manually</div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: x-small;">user:~$ run_maven_clean.py</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: x-small;">mvn clean install</span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
but fails terribly when called by a web server</div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<pre style="font-family: 'Courier New', courier, monotype, monospace;"><span class="stdout"><span style="font-size: x-small;"> File "/home/use/<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; white-space: normal;">run_maven_clean.py</span>", line 105, in build
subprocess.check_call(cmd)
File "/usr/lib/python2.5/subprocess.py", line 457, in check_call
retcode = call(*popenargs, **kwargs)
File "/usr/lib/python2.5/subprocess.py", line 444, in call
return Popen(*popenargs, **kwargs).wait()
File "/usr/lib/python2.5/subprocess.py", line 594, in __init__
errread, errwrite)
File "/usr/lib/python2.5/subprocess.py", line 1149, in _execute_child
raise child_exception
OSError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory</span></span></pre>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Reading around, I found tips, that there is no shell, make sure you have bash or csh... Of course, I have shell=False for security, still, I thought "mvn" is pretty well known executable on the system, it should find it, well NO.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
NO SHELL also means, you have NO PATH, NO ENVIRONMENT VARIABLES.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
and the correct way to do really is</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>subprocess.check_call(["/opt/apache-maven-3.0.4/bin/mvn", "clean", "install"])</b><br />

<br />
Deciding whether the security benefit is worth the trouble is your choice.<br />
<br />
Here's my preferred way of verifying it:<br />
<br />
1- Open Regedit on the machine<br />
2- check the registry key <span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, 'Liberation Sans', 'DejaVu Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 18px;">HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\EnableLUA </span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, 'Liberation Sans', 'DejaVu Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 18px;">(REG_DWORD) if the key is missing or its value is 0, then it's disabled, any other value (like 1) then it's enabled</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, 'Liberation Sans', 'DejaVu Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 18px;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, 'Liberation Sans', 'DejaVu Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 18px;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, 'Liberation Sans', 'DejaVu Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 18px;">The way to do it from the UI is as follow:</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, 'Liberation Sans', 'DejaVu Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 18px;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, 'Liberation Sans', 'DejaVu Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 18px;">From your "Start Menu"</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, 'Liberation Sans', 'DejaVu Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 18px;">Launch the "Control Panel"</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, 'Liberation Sans', 'DejaVu Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 18px;">Select "User Accounts"</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, 'Liberation Sans', 'DejaVu Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 18px;">Then "Change User Account Control Settings"</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, 'Liberation Sans', 'DejaVu Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 18px;"><br /></span>

<br />
If you explore Windows configuration and Help, you will find<br />
<br />
<b>My computer</b><br />
<b> -> Right click</b><br />
<b> -> Properties</b><br />
<b> -> Advanced System Settings</b><br />
<b> -> Performance Settings</b><br />
<b> -> Data Execution Prevention</b><br />
<br />
You can set a few options on or off, but this is rarely enough.<br />
<br />
In order to <b>REALLY disable DEP</b>, you need to tell Windows at <b>boot time</b>.<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">For Windows 2003 or Windows XP</span><br />
You need to go to<br />
<br />
<b>My computer</b><br />
<b> -> Right click</b><br />
<b> -> Properties</b><br />
<b> -> Advanced System Settings</b><br />
<b> -> </b><b>Startup and Recovery Settings </b><br />
<br />
and edit your <b>boot.ini </b>from there<br />
and add the parameter <b>/NoExecute=AlwaysOff</b><br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">For Windows Vista or Windows 7</span><br />
There is a command line tool to do so, make sure to launch your command prompt<b> "As Administrator" </b>and run the command<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><em style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-style: normal; line-height: 16px;">BCDEdit</em><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;">.exe /</span><em style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-style: normal; line-height: 16px;">set</em><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;"> {current} </span><em style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-style: normal; line-height: 16px;">nx AlwaysOff</em></b></div>
<br />
You can also see all your boot options with<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>BCDEdit /enum</b></div>
<br />
you will something similar to<br />
<span style="color: #666666; font-size: x-small;">Windows Boot Manager</span><br />

<span style="color: #666666; font-size: x-small;">nx AlwaysOff</span><br />
<br />
<br />
Don't forget, this is a <b>boot </b>option, so you do need to <b><span style="font-size: large;">reboot </span></b>for Windows to take it into account.<br />

<div>
We all see ads all day every day, and there is a way to share with Mr Google some of the profit generated, by simply tweaking your browser's default search engine. The search results displayed will be identical.<br />

<div>
Here's how.</div>

I often have several monsters going at the same time, and keep tracking my damage compared to the sweet spots.<br />
Newest monsters at the top :)<br />
<br />
Most data comes of course from the awesome <a href="http://castleage.wikia.com/wiki/Monster">Wikia Monster</a> page<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>Kessaran, the Undying</b><br />
1 Epic Drop = 3.5 mil damage (100%)<br />
2 Epic Drop = 7.5 mil damage (100%)<br />
<br />
<b>Fenix, Risen From Ashes </b><br />
1 Epic Drop = 5+ million<br />
2 Epic Drops = 10+ million (>97%)<br />
<br />
<b>Urmek, Protector of Gaia </b><br />
1 Epic Drop = 5 million damage (100%)<br />
2 Epic Drop = 12 million damage (100%)<br />

I recently got a new laptop, <b>HP EliteBook 8570w</b>, and like all the new line of HP laptops, it comes with the <b>Synaptics LuxPad</b>. It's a very large touchpad that supports <b>multitouch </b>and <b>advanced</b> gestures the way your <b>smartphone </b>would.<br />
<br />
However frustration often comes because the touchpad tends to <b>disable itself</b> if my hand rests on it while typing.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQD88-RvE0_PJPBYpPZltZoCDTxLRNBhlK1hCs8JvxEm-tL_lK7u7Yh_ZQbU_c0G7FAsZ4ftK9S0ySa99qBPeoc3nuCmZdhR-webmILrSqtllyvCrigh5pjPBKaAjCgGX2nicPRqYQw_52/s1600/pad_off.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Synaptics Luxpad Disabled" border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQD88-RvE0_PJPBYpPZltZoCDTxLRNBhlK1hCs8JvxEm-tL_lK7u7Yh_ZQbU_c0G7FAsZ4ftK9S0ySa99qBPeoc3nuCmZdhR-webmILrSqtllyvCrigh5pjPBKaAjCgGX2nicPRqYQw_52/s320/pad_off.png" title="Synaptics Luxpad Disabled" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm then left without my touchpad trying to go in the LuxPad's configuration panel in order to re-enable it. After this happened a couple times, frustration rises.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Today I found out the proper way to enable or disable it, I simply need to <b>double tap the top left corner </b>of the pad! and Voila</div>

<br />Paulhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11903358544328649295noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7410099371468306397.post-54887788820036494192012-11-30T15:11:00.001-08:002012-11-30T16:09:19.839-08:00Which of the new Castle Age monster should I farm? and how to equip my Runes and Gems?<br />
With the new systems of Runes, Gems, Resistance and the new monsters, it gets confusing, what should I try to get? and where should I equip it?<br />
<br />
I will present this from the stand point of a <b>PVP</b> player.<br />
<br />
Let's prioritize what a PVP wants<br />
- a lot of <b>damage</b>, I want my tokens to count!<br />
- many <b>various Pierce</b> combined to boost my attacks<br />
- highest <b>Physical Resistance</b> possible (directly to oppose opponents attack strength on me, all other resistances are useless unless the opponent has that specific pierce)<br />
<br />
<br />
From there I know where to load each item<br />
<br />
<b><span style="font-size: large;">PVP load out</span></b><br />
attack rune + Physical pierce => Best Weapon<br />
damage rune + Earth Fury => should be on Glove<br />
Health rune + Physical Resistance => should be on Helmet<br />
Defense Rune + Earth Protection => Best Armor<br />
<br />
<br />
I would always load Earth Protection rather than any other, to counter Earth Fury which is the most easily obtainable Gem.<br />
<br />
Monster load out can be adapted to whatever is needed.<br />
<br />
<br />
now what monster should I farm for this?<br />
<br />
<b>=> I would primarily farm </b><b><span style="font-size: large;">Urmeks </span>(both for the +25 Physical Resistance and the Shining Gem), <span style="font-size: large;">Voraks</span> and </b><b><span style="font-size: large;">Fenixes </span>(highest chance to get the +25 Physical Pierce) and .</b><br />
Also they all give <b>damage</b> essences which are my favorites!<br />
<br />
<b>Enjoy !</b><br />
<br />

Unfortunately since the installer or configuration itself creates the service account, this also means that you ran the installer under a different account and thus the service account is not the owner of its own folder structure where the binaries resides.<br />
<br />
In a secure environment, think with Windows UAC (User Access Control) turned on the application or service might fail to update its own configuration files and send you errors<br />
<br />
"Failed updating the server config file."<br />
"Service user does not exist."<br />

In this case it would often help to set the owner of the installation directory to be the service account under which the application run.<br />
If you know the exact file that the service needs to update you can change only this file, if not you can change for the entire directory.<br />

This is the fastest car in the game!<br />
<br />
I'm still trying to reach or beat the world record on this car 7.525s, but meanwhile here's the best I can repeatedly get:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8ARvAwAM1Ncq_RhvePSqZ0FW2bjLoXzNhwm2Xcef5FaMrXVzi8P22PkpQfd85T1HVJETH4K00GyTaPN-9KyAEUD4RAktelKTyNestwifPXHdWQSZMDv651DWTIvD_KI_h5qMd6SUnmLHP/s1600/2012-11-27+23.04.16.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8ARvAwAM1Ncq_RhvePSqZ0FW2bjLoXzNhwm2Xcef5FaMrXVzi8P22PkpQfd85T1HVJETH4K00GyTaPN-9KyAEUD4RAktelKTyNestwifPXHdWQSZMDv651DWTIvD_KI_h5qMd6SUnmLHP/s640/2012-11-27+23.04.16.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />

<br />
Full details of the tunes and the race above.<br />
Upgrades: 5 5 5 5 5 5<br />
I only use 2 gears<br />
1: 1.635<br />
2: 1.125<br />
and I launch at full rev so is really easy to reproduce only 1 shift to aim right, right at the beginning of the blue zone, release the noos at the exact same time.<br />
<br />
I easily ranked 5 stars with this tune.<br />
<br />
Enjoy!<br />

<br />
There is actually a much easier way to do this using the BITSAdmin tool from Windows.<br />
<br />
This tool allows you to change the proxy settings for<br />
<ul style="font-family: 'Segoe UI', Verdana, Arial; font-size: 13px;">
<li>LOCALSYSTEM</li>
<li>NETWORKSERVICE</li>
<li>LOCALSERVICE</li>
</ul>
<br />
Quick examples:<br />
<br />
Static proxy for LOCALSYSTEM:<br />
<span style="background-color: #999999;">bitsadmin /util /setieproxy localsystem MANUAL_PROXY http://myproxy.mydomain.com:8080</span><br />
<br />
Static proxy for NETWORKSERVICE that bypasses local addresses:<br />
<span style="background-color: #999999;">bitsadmin /util /setieproxy networkservice MANUAL_PROXY http://my.</span><span style="background-color: #999999;">proxy.</span><span style="background-color: #999999;">com "<local></span><local><local style="background-color: #999999;">"</local></local><br />
<br />
Set a proxy.pac for LOCALSERVICE:<br />
<span style="background-color: #999999;">bitsadmin /util /setieproxy localservice AUTOSCRIPT http://myproxy.mydomain.com/proxy.pac.js</span><br />
<br />
Remove all proxy settings for LOCALSYSTEM:<br />
<span style="background-color: #999999;">bitsadmin /util /setieproxy localsystem RESET</span><br />
<br />

Indeed the power outage might indicate that before that, the power line was not working properly. However, the only IP addresses I can get are 192.168.1.x.<br /><br />The bridged network obviously doesn't work.<br /><br />I read that for the bridged network to work, you need VmWare Tools.<br /><br />VmWare tools is indeed installed and running properly according to the VM and also according to VM Server itself.<br /><br />I try launching a VmWare tools repair from Vm Server, this one tells me the version installed is more recent than the one we're trying to use.<br />This is because Vm Server is not updated for few years already, and obviously it does not use the same VmWare tools as an ESX server.<br /><br />Solution:<br />- uninstall the existing VmWare tools<br />- reboot<br />- install the VmWare tools from the Vm Server<br />- rebootPaulhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11903358544328649295noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7410099371468306397.post-84216318992909768322010-12-08T12:12:00.000-08:002010-12-08T12:15:12.535-08:00How to set Proxy settings for SYSTEM account?Sometimes you need to run a service under SYSTEM user account, and sometimes this service needs to access the internet, and sometimes, your network admin will require you to go through a proxy to access the internet.<br /><br />easier to do this:<br /><br />- set the proxy setting for your user<br />- export HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Connections\DefaultConnectionSettings<br />- re import in HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\....<br /><br />Enjoy!Paulhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11903358544328649295noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7410099371468306397.post-17124366429315836362010-07-02T01:28:00.000-07:002010-07-02T01:30:09.032-07:00get $76 - Open or Reopen a ShareBuilder account TODAY<div>In celebration of the independence day, ShareBuilder is giving $76 to all new accounts after your first trade.</div><div><br /></div><a href="http://www.ingdirect.com/independence/">http://www.ingdirect.com/independence/</a><div><br /></div><div>Existing account holders can simply open a new account!</div><div><br /></div><div>enjoy!</div>Paulhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11903358544328649295noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7410099371468306397.post-11685616191168653442010-06-12T11:29:00.001-07:002010-06-12T11:29:52.325-07:00Get $100+ - Open a free Chase Checking<div>You can do this one every year, it is my second time doing it.</div><div><br /></div><div>You need to fund the account with $100, but you can fund it up to $500 with a Reward Credit Card and Rip some rewards on the way!</div><div><br /></div><div>Within 60 calendar days of opening the account, you need to set up a direct deposit or do 5 debit card transactions.</div><div><br /></div><div>Account must remain open for a minimum of 6 months.</div><div><br /></div><div>This offer expires June 30th.</div><div><br /></div><div><a href="https://coupon.chaseinformation.com/chaseoffer3/">https://coupon.chaseinformation.com/chaseoffer3/</a></div><div><br /></div><div>Enjoy !</div><div><br /></div>Paulhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11903358544328649295noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7410099371468306397.post-51127471295034752642010-05-27T06:32:00.000-07:002010-05-27T06:39:57.053-07:00Get $50 - Open a free Bank of America CheckingYou can do this one every 6 months, I've done it 5 times already.<div>Very easy, open the account, fund it with $25, wait for your $50.</div><div><br /></div><div>BofA is now making it a bit harder asking for a direct deposit for 6 months.</div><div>Not a problem if your employer easily allows you to split your deposit.</div><div><div><br /></div><div><a href="http://promo.bankofamerica.com/groupbanking/bankatwork/?cm_mmc=DEP-GroupBanking-_-vanity-_-GB01VN0001_bankatwork-_-NA">http://promo.bankofamerica.com/groupbanking/bankatwork/?cm_mmc=DEP-GroupBanking-_-vanity-_-GB01VN0001_bankatwork-_-NA</a></div><div><br /></div><div>This offer expires June 30th.</div><div><br /></div><div>(They will have a new link after that, quite easy to find on Google, the code GROUP50 never changes)</div><div><br /></div><div>Enjoy !</div></div>Paulhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11903358544328649295noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7410099371468306397.post-41290836143809744342010-05-26T12:31:00.000-07:002010-05-26T12:40:51.624-07:00Tradeking $50 sign up Bonus (exp. Like the movie, they keep giving very detailed examples from the life of famous dead people to illustrate each idea.</div><div>For example Napoleon Bonaparte was a master in sex transmutation and was victorious as long as he was with the woman he loved. The style feels old and it reminded of these stories of apothecary sellings miracles and secrets.</div><div><br /></div><div>There are still some good and valid points of necessary behaviors for success.</div><div><br /></div><div>Below are some quotes I liked from the book</div><div><br /></div><div>Desire</div><div>"Any person who wins in any undertaking must be willing to burn his ships and cut all sources of retreat. Only by so doing can one be sure of maintening that state of mind known as a burning desire to win, essential to success"</div><div>=> if you want to succeed you need to give yourself no other option. It requires full dedication, full energy, full risks. It needs to be an obsession.</div><div><br /></div><div>"Every human being who reaches the age of understanding the purpose of money, whishes for it.</div><div><br /></div><div>Faith</div><div><br /></div><div>"If you think you are beaten, you are,</div><div>If you think you dare not, you don't</div><div>If you like to win, but you think you can't,</div><div>It is almost certain you won't.</div><div>Soon or late the man who wins</div><div>is the man WHO THINKS HE CAN!"</div><div><br /></div><div>Auto-Suggestion</div><div><br /></div><div>The Emil Coue formula "Day by day, in every way, I am getting better and better"</div><div>=> influence your subconscient</div><div><br /></div><div>Specialized Knowledge</div><div><br /></div><div>"The truth is that schooling does but little more than to put one in tthe way of learning how to acquire practical knowledge."</div><div>=> the most important is to know how to get people of knowledge work for you.</div><div><br /></div><div>"The way of success is the way of continuous pursuit of knowledge"</div><div><br /></div><div>Imagination</div><div><br /></div><div>Organized Planning</div><div><br /></div><div>"A quitter never wins - and - a winners never quits"</div><div><br /></div><div>A successful leader "knows that most men will work harder for commendation and recognition thant they will for money alone"</div><div>=> let the honors go to your team.</div><div><br /></div><div>Decision</div><div>Persistence</div><div>Sex Transmutation</div><div>"Sex is the most powerful of human desires. When driven by this desire, men develop keenes of imagination, courage, will-power, persistence, and creative ability unknown to them. So strong and impelling is the desite for sexual contact that men freely run the risk of life and reputation to indulge it."</div><div><br /></div><div>The one "who knows how to take his mind off the subject of sex, and direct it in efforts with as much enthusiasm and determination as he would apply toits original purpose, has acquired the art of sex transmutation"</div><div><br /></div><div>This book can be read online at </div><div><a href="http://www.virtuescience.com/think-and-grow-rich.html">http://www.virtuescience.com/think-and-grow-rich.html</a></div><div><br /></div><div>or downloaded from the Soil and Health Library</div><div><a href="http://www.soilandhealth.org/03sov/0304spiritpsych/030413.Hill.Think.and.Grow.Rich.pdf">http://www.soilandhealth.org/03sov/0304spiritpsych/030413.Hill.Think.and.Grow.Rich.pdf</a></div><div><br /></div></div>Paulhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11903358544328649295noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7410099371468306397.post-44517025575912943942009-08-17T15:21:00.001-07:002009-08-17T15:30:39.683-07:00The Secret<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh37lHiTXlRLS8fUcKBUSMYhCK3GI2F5q3BrN4-LzSk_EA71GFn_gsbQvbHbTD_F82rXp4YYCMWEry2yN7kEfM-TnqMO9sftWMRwsh5jfp8Uyxz4czgqlytA5KFt6X3l5j5bJd304cYyQ7V/s1600-h/secret.bmp"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 192px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh37lHiTXlRLS8fUcKBUSMYhCK3GI2F5q3BrN4-LzSk_EA71GFn_gsbQvbHbTD_F82rXp4YYCMWEry2yN7kEfM-TnqMO9sftWMRwsh5jfp8Uyxz4czgqlytA5KFt6X3l5j5bJd304cYyQ7V/s320/secret.bmp" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5371061511166611250" /></a><br /><div>The secret is some kind of documentary explaining the Law of Attraction.</div><div><br /></div><div>I believe the Law of Attraction is true in part (if you don't wish for something, you're not gone get it, you will not even look for it!) but here it is presented in a pretty shallow way that involves a lot of mystery. The author just seems to say "close your eyes and order every thing you want from the catalog of the universe and you will get it; provided you wish for it thruthfully and constantly"</div><div><br /></div><div>Below are some notes and remarks I took while watching the movie.</div><div><br /></div><div>The secret is "the law of attraction" - hold on to the thought of what you want.</div><div>You attract what you want and think about the most.</div><div><br /></div><div>"Thoughts attract things"</div><div>"Thing positively so positive things will happen to you"</div><div><br /></div><div>I do believe that genuine positive attitude does attract generaly more positives responses from others and will help you in life.</div><div><br /></div><div>Set yourself a goal, "You don't need to know the whole way how to get where you want to be. Think of when you drive a car at night, you can only see 200ft ahead, but then you will see the next 200ft, etc... till your destination.</div><div><br /></div><div>"Focus on what you already have and feel grateful" that will boost your positive level. keep a token with you to remind you of it every day, all day.</div><div><br /></div><div>Emulate in your thoughts what it would feel like to have what you want. Imagine the happiness.</div><div><br /></div><div>"This is where magic and miracles happen"</div><div><br /></div><div>Explains the placebo effects, your mind is the strongest factor into recovery.</div><div>=> at least something here that can't be refuted. Placebo effect is proven, but it is a case where the mind affects the body (not the universe).</div><div><br /></div><div>"Focus on what you want, not what you don't want". Don't be anti-xxxx be pro-xxxx (the opposite: anti-war => pro-peace). Focus your energy on what you want, don't give free advertising to what you do not want. Being against something, gives that something exposure.</div><div><br /></div><div>Ignore what you don't want, don't talk about it. => this will help you stay more positive.</div><div><br /></div><div>"Whether you think you can or you can't; you are right". Ford</div><div><br /></div><div>They're desperately looking to establish credibility. They boast long futile titles and degrees; that we are reminded of every 20 seconds; They keep quoting famous dead people out of context, since they're not famous themselves and dead people won't disagree.</div><div>They keep showing sugar-sweet testimonies of easy success and lavish lifestyles to create envy. That's what you'll get if you wish for it and a month is enough.</div><div><br /></div><div>They quote mother Teresa as someone who understood the secret and applied it. Such a great person wishing so ardently for peace. However in the whole 20th century, there has only been 27 months of peace throughout the world.</div><div>What a poor result! On the other side, we see a simple-minded-looking guy who started wishing for a good parking spot everywhere he goes and he always gets it after only a month. We watched a video from Rich Dad's website while waiting for the session to start.</div><div><br /></div><div>Our speaker greets us, I must say I was very impressed, he was one of the <b>best public speaker</b> I have seen. His talk was well built, well organized, perfectly mastered, funny and he was always anticipating the audience's reactions.</div><div><br /></div><div>About 60% of the talk was actually a very convincing sales speech to have us sign up for a 3-day real estate seminar coming up at the same location in 3 weeks.</div><div><br /></div><div>In short the seminar "normally" cost $995, but if one signs up tonight, it's only $495, for 2 people, you get pretty much every book, video and manual Rich Dad ever published, you get access to the web site, the advisers, and all sorts of pre-written contracts worth thousands in attorney fees. A quick search on the web reveals that they've been doing these free seminars, every week, with the same deals, for at least 3 years and I didn't find anyone happy with the 3-day seminar which seems to be more of a 3 days sales speech for a 7 or 15 days training camp. The planning they showed us for the 3-day seminar had something like 100 sections, way too many to do anything more than define each topic quickly and give simple tips. </div><div><br /></div><div>I took a few notes on the non-sales part of the talk.</div><div><br /></div><div>The only thing you need to do to become is rich is <b>" FIND THE DEAL "</b></div><div>or in other words, find a house that you will buy for very cheap and that you will rent for very expensive after minor or no repairs.</div><div><br /></div><div>Everyone can look for the DEAL, <b>it does not cost a dollar</b>, just time and passion.</div><div><br /></div><div>once you found the DEAL, you have the First Mover Advantage</div><div>=> have the seller sign a 30-day contract to sell to you only (to lock him)</div><div>=> then you have 30 days to find the money to make the deal happen</div><div>=> and since it's a great deal, you won't have problems with that</div><div>if banks don't lend you money you can search the web for Hard Money Loan: investors that will lend you the money and take parts of the benefits.</div><div><br /></div><div>Look for FSBO (For Sale By Owner) => there is no agents.</div><div><br /></div><div>a 401K is savings, it's bad, it's wasted money.</div><div>Real Estate or owning a business is investing.</div><div><br /></div><div>Economic Cycles: describe the regular ups and downs of the economy.</div><div>In average every 6 years the market will go up and crash.</div><div>In average a recession last 18 to 24 months.</div><div>The recession starts at the highest point of GDB preceding 2 quarters of negative growth.</div><div><br /></div><div>We've been in the current recession for 18 months, hence in average we should have about 6 more months before it ends.</div><div><br /></div><div>=> you need to act before, BUY NOW</div><div><br /></div><div>There are 3 ways to get rich</div><div>- stocks</div><div>- creating a business, wholesale something = quick cash</div><div>- real estate => easiest, cheapest to start with</div><div><br /></div><div>To identify & make the DEAL, it's all about having the right spreadsheets, forms, contracts.</div><div>=> Learn before you do, take a Real Estate Class.</div><div><br /></div><div>When a recession ends, usually the economy goes in a phase of expansion that lasts 5 to 6 years.</div><div>=> you should only leverage at the beginning of the expansion</div><div>=> you should sell (stocks, real estate) before the market reach the peak, don't wait for signs of weakness.</div><div>=> sell some real estate, and pay off your 'best houses to keep' before the dump !</div><div><br /></div><div>Use the 1031 transfer to build your wealth avoiding taxes</div><div>=> you need to keep buying for a higher value and in the same type of housing (single family home)</div><div><br /></div><div>create a Real Estate Investment company</div><div>=> deduce from your taxes, gas mileage, trainings...</div><div><br /></div><div>All in all, this was a great & fun experience, and if you decide to try it, I would suggest to go without cash, nor checks, nor credit cards, nor phone... just to be on the safe side. These guys are just too good at doing their business: selling you seminars.</div><div><br /></div><div>Suggested reading: <i>Randy Pausch - The Last Lecture</i></div>Paulhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11903358544328649295noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7410099371468306397.post-28562231078574141102009-05-13T00:12:00.001-07:002009-05-13T00:14:20.926-07:00Let's Get Some Free Money (2)<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px; white-space: pre; ">Open an ING ShareBuilder Brokerage account and get $25 for signing up</span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px; white-space: pre;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px; white-space: pre; "><a href="https://www.referinvestors.com/k/QkKHBg4JOBleDJkMBCIBCQkOAAQ=/">https://www.referinvestors.com/k/QkKHBg4JOBleDJkMBCIBCQkOAAQ=/</a></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px; white-space: pre;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px; white-space: pre;">I will get 5 Free trades :)</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px; white-space: pre;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px; white-space: pre;">You can also open a ING Orange Savings account and get another $25 for signing up then link both accounts for instant transfers, send me your email and you will receive a referral link.</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px; white-space: pre;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px; white-space: pre;">Cheers</span></div>Paulhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11903358544328649295noreply@blogger.com0
